1-7) My revisit to Kanye West's 2016 release The Life of Pablo helped me find some amazing songs, possibly some of Kanye's best. I wouldn't have known about there being so many high profile features if Kanye put them in the tracklisting on Spotify.
8) I didn't like this song when I first listened to it, but it has grown on me quite a bit with every listen. Maybe part of the reason I started liking this song was seeing it in context when I saw Deadpool 2. Maybe I realized that French Montana was a little more tolerable than I thought. Maybe I love Lil Pump's verse and Diplo's production so much that it's easy to overlook the shortcomings of this song.
9-12) These were my personal favorites of the new singles that were released this past Friday.
13) This is a bit of an old song. This comes from Big Grams' only body of work, which was a short self-titled project from 2015. The song serves as more of a guilty pleasure than anything because it's just so garbage but at the same time, it goes so fucking hard, especially the build-up before the drop. It makes me wonder what Skrillex is up to these days.
14) This was another song that took me a while to get into. When I first listened to this song, I thought G-Eazy was trying way too hard to make another "No Limit." But after listening to both songs, I like this one a lot better. The hook is easily my favorite feature I've heard from Yo Gotti, G-Eazy is more tolerable than most times, and YBN Nahmir's verse was easily the highlight of this song.
15) This song also took a while for me to get into. I will admit that seeing the music video made me rethink my initial thoughts on this song, especially since it's shot so damn well. I love the fanfare in the production so much. I used to hate the hook but now I just find it so hilariously arrogant that I can't help but shout along. Kendrick's ad-libs also grew on me quite a bit. I know that Jay Rock has made way better music before, but I can't help but love this song.
I'll be back tomorrow with another edition of Hot Take Tuesday and I will also be putting together a playlist for my next revisit as I prepare myself for Kanye West and Kid Cudi's highly anticipated collab project Kids See Ghost.
