Playlist Additions 5/22/2018

Another week, another bunch of songs I've added to my Spotify playlists.  I don't know how long some of these will last, but they stood out to me while I listened to them for the first time, so they're on here.  Here are the songs I've added this past week (format is Artist - Title);

  1. Montana of 300 - Ugly
  2. Lil Baby feat. Drake - Yes Indeed
  3. Tiesto x Dzeko feat. Preme x Post Malone - Jackie Chan
  4. Wifisfuneral feat. YBN Nahmir - Juveniles
  5. KYLE - Games
  6. KYLE feat. Khalid - iMissMe
  7. Juice WRLD - Lucid Dreams
  8. A$AP Mob feat. A$AP Rocky x Playboi Carti x Big Sean - Frat Rules
  9. YoungBoy Never Broke Again - Outside Today
  10. NAV feat. Quavo - Faith
  11. NAV feat. Travis Scott - Champion
  12. NAV feat. Gunna - EAT
  13. NAV - Freshman List
  14. NAV - What I Need (Daheala Outro)
  15. Flosstradamus x FKi 1st x graves feat. Post Malone x KEY - Came Up
  16. Lil Baby feat. Starlito - Exotic
  17. Lil Baby feat. Gunna - Throwing Shade
  18. Lil Baby - First Class
  19. Lil Baby feat. Gunna x Lil Uzi Vert - Life Goes On
  20. Playboi Carti feat. Nicki Minaj - Poke It Out

1) Montana of 300 released an album this past Sunday called Pray for the Devil.  This was the lead single, which indicated that Montana was gonna go in a trap direction for the project.  I found that project to be disappointing, but "Ugly" is a nice song.  I just find his non-remixes to be incredibly inconsistent.

2-4) All were singles I listened to before the albums this week.  Yes Indeed was the track that led me to check out Harder Than Ever (the album I reviewed yesterday) and I already reviewed "Jackie Chan" and "Juveniles" on my last Singles Review post.

5 & 6) Even though I rated Light of Mine a 4 out of 5, there weren't too many playlist worthy songs.  However, Games is an absolute banger of a track and iMissMe is very funky.

7) I was not sold on Juice WRLD after I heard "All Girls Are the Same."  I honestly found that track to be generic and all around annoying.  But after listening to this song and watching Cole Bennett's music video, he just clicked with me.  I want to hear more of his music, and I'm pretty excited after finding out he's gonna drop a project this week.  I just hope to God that he's not just another passing fad.

8) I wasn't a fan of Cozy Tapes Vol. 2 when I first listened to it and I didn't add this song to my playlist initially.  I gave it a relisten ahead of A$AP Rocky's upcoming album Testing.  The project still sucks, but I couldn't believe how much I slept on "Frat Rules" until I heard it again.  I mainly love the song for its beat.

9) I'm not crazy about YoungBoy, but after listening to this song a few times, it grew on me.  I find the beat and hook to be very catchy.

10-14) I added these songs as I listened to NAV's album Reckless.  I didn't review the project very favorably (I gave it a 2 out of 5), but there were still a few songs I enjoyed.  I like "Fatih" for its beat switch, "Champion" for Travis Scott, "EAT" and "What I Need" for their production, and "Freshman List" because it grew on me.

15) I've heard this song a bunch of times before, mostly while playing Madden NFL 17, and I enjoyed it.  I didn't understand why I never added it to my playlist.  Listening to "Jackie Chan" by Tiesto, another Post Malone-featured EDM track, reminded me of this song, so I finally added it to my playlist.  It's just as enjoyable as the bunch of times I heard it while playing Madden.

16-19) I added these songs as I listened to Lil Baby's Harder Than Ever project.  I mostly enjoy them for the production and features, and I covered these songs extensively on my Harder Than Ever review.

20) When I reviewed Die Lit, I wasn't a fan of this song.  I saw Nicki Minaj perform this song with Carti on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live, which led me to listen to the song again.  Basically, the performance led me to do a complete 180 on it.  Pi'Erre Bourne's beat is amazing and Nicki's feature grew on me.  I take back everything I said about this song on my initial review, it's become one of my favorites.

Before I end this post, I'd like to make a few announcements.  First, What am I listening to? will be a monthly series, not a weekly series, and it will be posted on the last Sunday of every month.  Second, I'm going to announce a new series called "On Second Thought..." which will be a monthly post where I will give my second or changed opinion on albums, songs, artists, and whatnot.  The first post in this series will be out tomorrow.  Third, my first monthly best-of post for May will be written and posted by the end of this weekend.  On these posts, I will rank every album I've listened to from worst to best, name the top 10 songs I've listened to, and reveal the worst song of the month.  Here's my schedule for upcoming posts:

Wednesday 5/23: On Second Thought... #1

Thursday 5/24: Possibly announcing a new series or revisiting an older album

Friday 5/25-Sunday 5/27: My usual reviews of albums and singles.  A$AP Rocky, Pusha T, Wifisfuneral, and Juice WRLD are all rumored to drop this week.  After reviewing what I listened to, I will type up and post my best-of May 2018 lists.

Sunday 5/27 or Monday 5/28: What am I listening to? May 2018 post

And that's all.  Sorry for the long announcement.  I just wanted to give an idea of what posts to expect this week.
