1) Lil Peep feat. Clams Casino - 4 Gold Chains [Disliked]
This is the second single released since Lil Peep's tragic death back in November. Since his death, I tried very hard to get into his music and understand his appeal. I could understand why people would listen to him and how they would relate to him, but I don't like his music at all. This song didn't change my opinion. It bored me. I don't even remember what the song was about or how it sounded. However, I do remember that the song had an outro that went too long, and I felt that it ended a bit quickly.
Verdict: It was a boring and forgettable track.
2) Kodak Black feat. Jadakiss x TXS - Mama [Ehhhh]
With the release of this song, the throwaway single "Halloween," and his recent mixtape, Heart Break Kodak, it seems like Kodak Black has something for every holiday. Here, we have a single for Mother's Day. The message behind the song is very nice, but the song itself has its shortcomings. What brings the song down is Kodak himself, as you have to suffer through his awful singing and annoying slurred delivery. While TXS and Jadakiss deliver a fine contribution, Kodak just doesn't belong here.
Verdict: This track would be great without its main artist.
Verdict: This track would be great without its main artist.
3) Jay Rock - Win [Ehhhh]
The next single for Jay Rock's upcoming project is a hype, braggadocious track. The production sounds like something you would hear during a basketball team's pregame warmups, which I don't have too much of a problem with. The hook is incredibly corny, and annoying. The uncredited Kendrick Lamar ad-libs are laughably awful. This song sounds like something ESPN would play when they go to commercial during an NBA Playoff game.
Verdict: The beat is okay, but Jay Rock could have done better.
4) Diplo feat. French Montana x Lil Pump - Welcome to the Party [Between Disliked and Ehhhh]
This isn't technically a single. It's one of the songs on the Deadpool 2 soundtrack, but I only checked out this song and I want to talk about it. Like "Win," this song features production that sounds like something you would hear during pregame warmups. It definitely sounds like standard hype production. French Montana is awful on this, which doesn't say much considering that he's an average at best rapper himself. The hook is corny and awful. The saving grace on this track is Lil Pump's verse, which brings some much-needed energy to an otherwise lifeless song.
Verdict: Stop putting French Montana on party tracks. He's terrible.
5) Pharrell Williams feat. Camila Cabello - Sangria Wine [Disliked]
I was excited when I saw Pharrell and Camila collaborated on another track after how much I loved "Havana." Needless to say, I was disappointed. The instrumental isn't tropical enough to fit the hook. Camila Cabello's English vocals sound awful. There's a lyric that sounds like "Uno, Dos, Tres, Tartar sauce," although the actual line is "Turbo sauce," which still doesn't make much sense. This is easily one of Pharrell's weaker beats. However, I love how the outro sounds.
Verdict: Major disappointment.
6) Tiesto x Dzeko feat. Preme x Post Malone - Jackie Chan [Liked]
I used to be into mainstream EDM artists like Tiesto, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, and the like. The Post Malone feature especially piqued my interest. I don't have a problem with him on EDM tracks. In fact, I thought Posty was the highlight of Flosstradamus' song "Came Up." As for "Jackie Chan," there are some nice summer vibes here. Post's hook is infectious and gets better throughout the song. The drop is nice, too.
Verdict: It's a fun song. Check it out.
7) Steve Aoki feat. Lil Yachty x AJR - Pretender [Disliked]
I'm gonna be blunt here. This song is fucking terrible. The production sounds very grating. Lil Yachty is the only redeeming quality here, and his verse was okay at best. AJR is right in the chorus when they say they don't belong here because they are awful. That band is the musical equivalent to "How do you do fellow kids?" But they are wrong about being good at pretending. You don't have to pretend you're not pandering to teens if you're AJR.
Verdict: For the love of god stop trying to make AJR a thing.
8) Tyga feat. Offset - Taste [Disliked]
Tyga has had many failed comeback attempts since signing to G.O.O.D. Music. His projects Bitch I'm the Shit 2 and Kyoto both went triple aluminum foil sales-wise. On a serious note, this song is awful. How did Tyga listen to this beat and think, "Hey, that sounds really good."? His rapping sounds so awful I want to blow my brains out. How can you compete with such lyrical gems like "she gon' suck me like a fuckin' Hi-C?" He also compares himself to Justin Bieber saying he "make these bitches scream." If anything, they'd probably say "Who the fuck is this?" Offset sounds like he just did this feature for a paycheck, and brings the song from bad to slightly below mediocre.
Verdict: No, Tyga, I don't love the taste nor do I want a taste.
9) Wifisfuneral feat. YBN Nahmir - Juveniles [Liked]
The beat on this track is West Coast G-Funk at its finest. It's very refreshing to hear Wifisfuneral over this type of production. It's honestly a crime how he hasn't blown up like his other South Florida counterparts. As for YBN Nahmir, he did fine here. He doesn't bring anything but his standard lyrical material, but it doesn't bring the track down.
Verdict: I like this song. I'd recommend it.
