Track Scrobbles
In 2018, I've had 3,536 scrobbles on last.fm. I joined the site late in June 2017, so I haven't even been on last.fm for a full year. In 2017, I've had 4,897 scrobbles, which is quite a bit for just over half a year. Activities such as walking around outside or traveling on long car trips certainly help boost my scrobble numbers. The day where I usually listen to music the most is on Fridays when I check out new music, which is always fun and I look forward to it every week. According to last.fm, I average 25 scrobbles per day.
Top 10 Artists
I have listened to 281 different artists since I've joined last.fm. You may not be able to read what the picture says, but I'm going to tell you that my most scrobbled artists aren't a very accurate representation of my actual favorite artists. I'll break down my top 10:
10) Future (171 scrobbles) - Future is actually one of my favorite artists. According to my Spotify 2017 wrap-up, Future was my second most played artist. When I made my last.fm account, Future's 2017 albums were just falling out of my rotation. He would be much higher if I started my account back in January instead of June. My most played Future song is "I'm So Groovy" from his recent self-titled project although my favorite song of his is "Thought It Was a Drought" from DS2.
9) Famous Dex (178 scrobbles) - I mentioned in my "Playing Catch Up In 2018" post that Famous Dex is one of my guilty pleasure artists. Last.fm likes to expose that kind of thing sometimes. At one point last year, "Wit Yo Bitch" with MadeinTYO was my most played song. I don't nearly have as much shame about liking Dex's music now as I did then, but he doesn't even crack my top 10 favorite artists. My most played Famous Dex song is "Pick It Up" with A$AP Rocky from his most recent project Dex Meets Dexter, which accurately reflects my favorite song by him.
8) Lil Yachty (187 scrobbles) - Another guilty pleasure artist comes into the top 10, but it was mostly because of how much I've played Lil Boat 2 this year. I mentioned in a previous post that it's one of my favorite projects of 2018, and I still stand by that opinion. I don't like him as much as my last.fm account shows here, but he does have some nice feel-good songs on his projects that I do enjoy. My most played Lil Yachty song is "She Ready" with PnB Rock from Lil Boat 2, which is tied with "Count Me In" as my favorite from that project.
7) Drake (203 scrobbles) - Drake is probably my favorite artist. He was one of the first rappers I started listening to so I could get into the genre. He's another artist who would be higher up if I had started my account earlier because I played More Life for most of Spring 2017. By June, however, most of the songs from that project had fallen out of my rotation. Drake has been climbing up my most scrobbled artist list thanks to songs like "God's Plan" and "Nice for What" being played a lot lately. My most played Drake song is currently "God's Plan," which is second to "Nice for What" in terms of his recent output. However, my all-time favorite Drake song is a tie between "Know Yourself" from If You're Reading This It's Too Late and "Over" from Thank Me Later.
6) Lil Pump (204 scrobbles) - Here's where things start getting real shameful. I listened to some of his songs from his self-titled mixtape throughout much of the fall and winter when it came out. I had no idea how much I loved songs like "Smoke My Dope" with Smokepurpp and "Whitney" with Chief Keef. I haven't listened to much of him lately but since "Esskeetit" snuck its way into my rotation, he's been climbing back up. My most played Lil Pump song is currently "Flex Like Ouu," which is a close second to "Smoke My Dope" as my favorite song by him.
5) 21 Savage (252 scrobbles) - Thanks to the release of Without Warning, a recent collaborative project between him, Offset of Migos, and Metro Boomin, 21 Savage's scrobble count has skyrocketed into my top 5. 21 Savage may just crack my top 10 favorites. My most played 21 Savage song is currently "Mad Stalkers" with Offset and Metro Boomin from Without Warning, which accurately reflects my favorite song involving him.
4) Travis Scott (289 scrobbles) - This accurately reflects Travis Scott's placement on my actual favorite artist list. I love Travis Scott's music, including his latest album, which I understand is polarizing among his fans. I still have quite a few songs from Rodeo and Birds In the Trap Sing McKnight, as well as his most recent single, "Watch" with Lil Uzi Vert and Kanye West in my rotation. That scrobble number is gonna go way up once Astroworld drops. My most played Travis Scott song is currently "Sweet Sweet" from Birds In the Trap Sing McKnight, which is a close second to my actual favorite Travis song "90210" from Rodeo.
3) Migos (379 scrobbles) - Even with Culture II coming out and basically making the scrobble number skyrocket, this number would be even higher if I joined last.fm in January 2017 instead of June. Thier placement in my most scrobbled artists is almost very accurate to where I hold them in my favorite artist list. I have plenty of Migos songs from their latest project still in my rotation that I will probably keep playing until the end of summer, so the only place that number is going is up. My most played Migos song is currently "Stir Fry" from Culture II which is on my list of favorite Migos songs. That list is currently topped by "T-Shirt" from Culture.
2) Smokepurpp (446 scrobbles) - I played a ton of songs from Deadstar during the fall and winter it came out. Even in early 2018, I was still finding songs from that project that would make their way into my rotation. Most of the songs from Deadstar have exited my playlists but his new songs in 2018 are still keeping that scrobble number up. Smokepurpp is an artist I enjoy, but his plays are not accurate in terms of how much I enjoy him. My most played Smokepurpp song is currently "Krispy Kreme" off Deadstar, which accurately reflects my favorite song by him.
1) Lil Uzi Vert (626 scrobbles) - Luv Is Rage 2 was one of my favorite albums of 2017. I still have songs from that project in my playlists 9 months after release. I also have a couple songs from Luv Is Rage and The Perfect Luv Tape still in my rotation. Lil Uzi is about four spots higher on this list as he is on my favorite artist list, meaning he just cracks into my top 5. My most played Lil Uzi Vert song is currently "Of Course We Ghetto Flowers" with Playboi Carti and Offset from The Perfect Luv Tape, which is tied with "XO TOUR Llif3" as my favorite song by him.
Top 10 Albums
I have played 787 different albums since I joined last.fm. These album rankings, of course, don't reflect my all time favorites but are very similar to my top 10 most scrobbled artists. Here's a breakdown:
10) Lil Pump - Lil Pump (120 scrobbles): As I said before, I played some songs from here quite a bit from October 2017 to January 2018. He's a guilty pleasure artist who made a mixtape I didn't expect to enjoy. My most played song from the mixtape is "Smoke My Dope" with Smokepurpp.
9) Lil Uzi Vert - Luv Is Rage 2 Deluxe (124 scrobbles): I had all four bonus tracks from the deluxe edition in my playlist and I played them all very often, if not more than the songs from the original. They made the album even better for me. My most played song from the bonus tracks is "20 Min."
8) Playboi Carti - Playboi Carti (128 scrobbles): I still have "Location" in my playlist over a year after release. I've always found new songs I enjoy from this mixtape that I play for a while. Playboi Carti is not in my top 10 most scrobbled artists, but he might end up getting there after I added a few songs from Die Lit into my rotation. My most played song from the mixtape is "Location."
7) Lil Yachty - Lil Boat 2 (136 scrobbles): Lil Yachty's most recent project takes up the vast majority of his scrobbles. A good portion of it is on my playlist, so that number is only going up throughout the summer. My most played song from the project is "She Ready" with PnB Rock.
6) 21 Savage x Offset x Metro Boomin - Without Warning (140 scrobbles): This was one of my favorite projects of 2017, and I still have a few of these songs in my rotation. These songs somehow haven't gotten old for me almost 7 months after release. My most played song from the project is "Mad Stalkers."
5) A$AP Ferg - Still Striving (143 scrobbles): A$AP Ferg's latest project was one of my favorites of 2017, but it didn't crack my top 10 for me. I still have 2 songs from there on my playlist and both still haven't gotten old to me yet almost 9 months after release. My most played song from the project is "Mattress REMIX" with A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti, Famous Dex, and Rich The Kid.
4) Migos - Culture II (186 scrobbles): You can say that having 24 songs on your album has made it easier to get a bunch of scrobbles and make their way into the top 5 rather quickly. I have plenty of songs on here that I still play and enjoy quite a bit, so it's not going anywhere for a while. My most played song from the album is "Walk It Talk It" with Drake, which is tied with "Narcos" as my favorite song from Culture II.
3) Travis Scott - Birds In the Trap Sing McKnight (194 scrobbles): People can hate this album all they want, but I enjoy it and will continue to do so. I only really have one song from this album still in my rotation. It's my most played song, "Sweet Sweet."
2) Smokepurpp - Deadstar (263 scrobbles): I guess since I like many of the songs from this project, it had to be this high up on the list. I still have one song from here on my playlist. It's my most played song, "Krispy Kreme."
1) Lil Uzi Vert - Luv Is Rage 2 (281 scrobbles): It's honestly incredible how much replay value this album has. Even in 2018, I'm still finding new songs to put into my rotation. I currently have two songs still on my playlist, and that isn't counting the one deluxe edition track that's in there too. My most played song is "Sauce It Up" although my favorite is a tie between "The Way Life Goes" and "Dark Queen."
Top 10 Songs
I don't really have a favorite song of all time list, but in terms of right now, it sort of reflects my actual list. Here's the breakdown:
10) Migos - Stir Fry (48 scrobbles): It's a fun, catchy song that isn't normally in the style Migos does. The craziest part about this song is that it was originally made for T.I. a decade ago.
9) Kodak Black feat. XXXTentacion - Roll In Peace (48 scrobbles): I no longer play this song as often as I did in the fall of 2017, but I still love it. The beat from London On Da Track is insane and XXXTentacion's verse is honestly my favorite from him.
8) Rich The Kid feat. Kendrick Lamar - New Freezer (48 scrobbles): I don't have this song on my playlist anymore, so it'll go down soon, but this was a very fun song. You can't sit still when this beat is playing and Kendrick Lamar's verse might be one of his best.
7) A$AP Ferg feat. A$AP Rocky x Playboi Carti x Famous Dex x Rich The Kid - Mattress REMIX (53 scrobbles): This song is a certified banger. I love hearing not one, but two verses where Ferg and Rocky and then Famous Dex and Rich The Kid trade bars. Even though Playboi Carti's bridge was unnecessary, I still believe that this song goes toe-to-toe with the Work Remix.
6) Ethereal feat. Playboi Carti - Beef (54 scrobbles): The beat is just insane. It's so atmospheric you'd believe you weren't even on earth. That was the case for a lot of Playboi Carti's songs when he was signed to Awful Records.
5) 21 Savage x Offset x Metro Boomin - Mad Stalkers (55 scrobbles): This is easily my favorite song from Without Warning. Metro's eerie beat is one of his best. 21 Savage spits probably his best verse he's ever done and Offset's fast-paced flow rides the beat so well.
4) Lil Uzi Vert - Sauce It Up (57 scrobbles): Sauce It Up is not my favorite song from Luv Is Rage 2. However, it has lasted the longest among the songs on there. I happen to be in the mood for this song more often than my actual favorites "The Way Life Goes" and "Dark Queen."
3) Famous Dex feat. A$AP Rocky - Pick It Up (61 scrobbles): The beat on this track is simply amazing. I played this song three times the day it released. When it gets to A$AP Rocky's verse it goes from a good song to a great song.
2) Travis Scott - Sweet Sweet (65 scrobbles): The title accurately reflects the song. It's sweet. The beat is sweet and Travis' voice is sweet. It's definitely the best song on Birds In the Trap Sing McKnight.
1) Lil Uzi Vert feat. Playboi Carti x Offset - Of Course We Ghetto Flowers (66 scrobbles): I will admit that my plays on this song have died down a bit but every once in a while, I'll put it on and remember how great it is. It's not just the best song on The Perfect Luv Tape. It's the best Lil Uzi Vert song period. He and Maaly Raw are one of the best rapper-producer duos in hip-hop. They can do no wrong together.
What am I listening to? will be a weekly series here and the posts will probably be much shorter than this. My next post from this series will probably be next Monday. I will have my next full-length review soon as well as songs I've added to my playlist so far this year.
